Robert Gordon’s College is supporting Safer Internet Day 2016 by joining hundreds of other organisations across the UK in celebrating e-safety by promoting the safe and responsible use of technology.
The Aberdeen school are hosting a week-long series of activities from February 22-26 2016 to recognise this nationwide event which falls during the preliminary exam timetable on February 9 2016. Activities include specialist assemblies, quizzes, competitions and lessons dedicated to the broad topic of e-safety and Digital Citizenship in PSE (Personal and Social Education) and Computing Science classes.
The theme ‘Play your part for a better internet’, offers the opportunity to focus on both the creative and positive things that children and young people are doing online, as well as the role that we all play in helping to create a better internet.
Jess Power, e-Learning Co-ordinator at Robert Gordon’s College said: “Young people today are becoming creative and engaging digital consumers. The internet offers many opportunities for positive expression and the effective exchange of ideas, skills we endeavour to foster in our pupils as part of becoming positive digital citizens.”
Simon Mills, Head of Robert Gordon’s College added: “It is vital that all young people have the skills and awareness to stay safe online and benefit from the many positive features of the internet, whilst avoiding the downsides and dangers. This involves pupils of all ages gaining a better level of digital literacy and clearly understanding the need for e-safety.”
