An online public consultation for phase two of the Beach Masterplan has started which is designed to be an early exercise to gauge initial views on the area.

A framework for proceeding with and monitoring phase one of the beach proposals, which will see the creation of a new urban park, an events park, new landscaping and structures on Broadhill as well as cycle lanes, was agreed earlier this month (May 2023) at a council committee.

Phase two are for the areas immediately north and south of phase one.

The Beach Masterplan is designed to capitalise on the built and natural assets of the area which is a tourism priority in its own right and will continue to be in demand as people seek safe, outdoor, wildlife, and active experiences. The beach area is also an intrinsic component of the Aberdeen Coastal Trail, and the wide variety of tourism offer that includes nature, golf, maritime history, and dolphin watching.

Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Councillor Christian Allard said: “The beachfront plans are designed to regenerate the area creating more facilities for both residents and visitors alike, making the area more accessible, and continuing to protect and appreciate the natural assets of the area.”

Co-Leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: “We would encourage people to take part in the online consultation which is designed to gain initial views at this early stage of the project.”

The public consultation for Phase Two is split into two sections – the area to the north of phase one (stretching to the River Don) and area to the south of phase one (stretching to Footdee and the River Dee) – and comprises six questions for both areas.

More consultation will be held in due course however it would be beneficial to gauge initial views at this early stage alongside the on-going work to phase one.

The public consultation is available until Friday June 23 at https://consultation.aberdeencity.gov.uk/planning/beachfront-development-framework-phase-2/.
