Profit at Walker’s Shortbread has more than doubled after improved sales in domestic and export markets.
Annual accounts for the family-owned firm show turnover was £183.8million for 2023, up from £164.6million in the previous year.
The company noted sales in the UK grew by 11.4% to £85.8million and overseas by 11.9% to £98million.
Pre-tax profit was £14.8million, compared with £5.1million in the previous 12 months.
In an update filed with the accounts, the firm said the "significant" top line sales growth had been driven by the "extremely positive launch, impact and marketplace acceptance" of its new branding and packaging.
It said that its operating margin had returned to pre-pandemic levels, but that volatile ingredient prices, energy costs and access to labour continue to challenge the business model.
The update added: "Like many businesses in our sector, we have experienced a reduction in available labour following the completion of the Brexit process and the tightening of the labour market during, and after, following the pandemic.
"We are managing this by further enhancing our recruitment processes, implementing further automated solutions where practicable and scrutinising our remuneration schemes."
