Port of Aberdeen strengthens its leadership for driving sustainable economic growth and energy transition by appointing Gillian King as a non-executive member to its board, effective January 6, 2025.
With over 20 years of experience in the international energy sector, Gillian has excelled in technical, commercial, and senior management roles across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. She was appointed to her current role as Group Strategic Growth Director at THREE60 Energy in August 2024.
Gillian’s passion for advancing the energy transition in north-east Scotland led her to complete a Business Sustainability Management course at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. This drive has also been reflected in her impactful roles with Climate Investment and the Net Zero Technology Centre.
Her appointment comes at a pivotal time for Port of Aberdeen as it accelerates its diversification and decarbonisation strategies while continuing to deliver safe, high-quality services across energy, trade, and tourism.
Roy Buchan, chairman, Port of Aberdeen, said: “I am delighted to welcome Gillian King to Port of Aberdeen’s Board. Gillian brings a wealth of experience within the wider energy industry, and her expertise and passion will be invaluable as the port continues to lead efforts in the energy transition.”
Bob Sanguinetti, chief executive officer, Port of Aberdeen, said: “As a modern Trust Port, our Board is essential in guiding the port’s diversification, advancing our vision to become the UK’s first net zero port, and ensuring long term prosperity for future generations. We look forward to working with Gillian to achieve these goals.”
Gillian King said: “Having grown up in Aberdeen, I have always been immensely proud of our port, situated within the heart of the city. It is an incredible honour to be invited onto the Board and I’m excited to bring my skills and experience to support this historic institution in achieving its ambitious growth goals.”
