A group of talented young performers are to take part in Aberdeen Art Gallery’s popular free weekly Lunchbreak concert series.
Musicians from the North East of Scotland Music School (NESMS) are to play at Aberdeen Citadel as part of Aberdeen Art Gallery’s Lunchbreak Concerts series on 10 November between 12pm and 1.30pm.
The performance by the school’s Flute Choir will feature a wide-ranging programme of music taken from three centuries.
The Lunchbreak Concerts have been running since 2004 at the Cowdray Hall and have played a key role in the development of young musicians in Aberdeen.
Global artists such as Dame Evelyn Glennie had their first performances in the popular venue which is now undergoing a refurbishment as part of the £30million Aberdeen Art Gallery Inspiring Art and Music redevelopment project.
With the Cowdray Hall temporarily closed for refurbishment, the 2016/17 programme kicked off in September with concerts taking place across the city, and will continue until May 2017.
Before Thursday’s concert, Christine Rew, Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums Manager, will give a short talk highlighting the importance of the Inspiring Art and Music Campaign in creating a world class cultural centre for the people of Aberdeen, visitors to the city and the North East and also boosting education and learning through the arts.
Aberdeen City Council Deputy Leader Councillor Marie Boulton said: “Lunchbreak Concerts are an important way of keeping in touch with our visitors during the closure period.
“I would encourage anyone interested in the future of art and culture in Aberdeen to attend Christine’s talk and hear how the redevelopment will become the pinnacle of our city’s transformation over the next decade.
“In the meantime, the temporary move out of the Cowdray Hall has given us a superb opportunity to work with other organisations to present our concerts in new, interesting and sometimes unexpected venues.
This particular concert is an opportunity to witness the new talent we have coming through the North-east.”
The Lunchbreak Concert series is now being held in venues such as Aberdeen Citadel, Aberdeen Maritime Museum, St Nicholas Kirk, St Andrew’s Cathedral, and the Society of Advocates Library.
