Detectives investigating Nicola Sturgeon over the SNP's finances have asked Scottish prosecutors for guidance on their next steps.
Investigators have been probing the party's funding since 2021 and previously charged ex-CEO Peter Murrell in connection with embezzlement.
A fresh report submitted by the police is understood to be about Ms Sturgeon and the former SNP treasurer Colin Beattie. The former first minster and Mr Beattie were arrested and released without charge last year, but has remained under investigation.
Initial arrests made were linked to the spending of around £600,000 raised by SNP supporters to be earmarked for Scottish independence campaigning.
Th "advice and guidance report" on Operation Benchfrom is thought to include details of what the police have discovered in connection to Ms Sturgeon and her party's finances.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "On 9 August, we presented the findings of the investigation so far to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service and we await their direction on what further action should be taken."
Ms Sturgeon stood down as first minster weeks before her arrest but denied that her decision to stand down as SNP leader in March last year was influenced by the police investigation.
She said she would fully co-operate with the inquiry and has done nothing wrong.
