Plans to rejuvenate a derelict four-storey building on Union Street have welcomed by open arms as efforts to bring more people into the city centre continue.
The upper floors of 130 Union Street, above the Tag Heuer boutique, could be regenerated from worn-out office buildings into state-of-the-art flats.
Designs from Tinto Architecture show how the new flats could look, which would be within a 10-second walk from Belmont Street.
The architect says the plans will "contribute to revitalising the city centre".
Welcome investment
The proposals, should they be given the green-light, would be another boost to the Granite Mile which is undergoing some sort of resurgence, in spite of declining footfall.
The number of vacant units is decreasing, while a wider range of shops and hospitality businesses open up shop.
Bob Keiller, the chairman of Our Union Street, said: "Any investment on Union Street, especially that which brings a rundown unit back into life, is welcome.
"We are attracting more and more exciting, new businesses to the street but it's no secret that that the upper levels remain a bit of an eyesore.
"While challenges remain in terms of planning, we must do anything and everything we can do to transform the unused upper floors into shops, restaurants, flats or offices. It's all about bringing people back into the city centre."
