Plans for a nine-story, 21-apartment block of student flats on Union Street, with a roof garden, have been approved.
The 250/252 Union Street development will take place at the rear of the Amicable House office block, which faces onto Union Row.
The site is currently used as a car park for the upper floor offices, but consultants Aurora say that is "an inefficient and unsustainable use of this land".
Each flat is planned to have a balcony, with the floors all consisting of two, two-bedroom flats and one single-bed flat.
Planning officials have accepted the height and size of the building would have "some adverse impact" on Union Row.
But they insist “care has been taken to ensure that the building would not be prominently visible from Union Street, nor would it significantly harm any medium or long-distance views of the city centre skyline."
