A commercial photography student at Gray’s School of Art is on the lookout for identical twins that would be keen to take part in a unique portraiture project.
Third year student Ryan Jardine (20), who is a twin himself, is looking for as many sets of identical siblings to feature in Project Twin, which sees him create merged portraits.
With the project, Ryan says he is seeking to show the bond that twins share, but also highlight that while they share similarities, they are also different people.
He has already created a portrait featuring the faces of both himself and his twin Ross.
Ryan said: “My main goal is create a series of split portraits, showing how ‘identical’ identical twins really are. I hope to learn more about each set and find out about their life as a twin. Are they exactly the same as their twin? How identical are they?
“In my case my brother and I are exactly the same, we just study different things at uni – Ross studies business and economics and I study photography.”
He added: “I think twins are amazing - two people who look exactly the same and with a really strong bond, leading different lives. I love looking at twins I see in the street or at uni. People always stare when I'm with my brother, so I know the feeling.
“Whenever I meet twins I always feel as though we are friends already because they know how twin life is and usually have been through the same experiences.”
Talking about the best thing about being a twin, Ryan said: “Always having someone to talk to. Since we have been through our whole life together and have the same interests, it’s really easy to talk about anything.
“The most annoying thing is that people constantly get my name wrong, though I don't blame them. Also, people always ask weird questions, like do you feel each other pain? Can you read his mind? Do you forget which one you are? Though these are more funny than annoying, to be honest.”
