People Factor Consultants Ltd (PFC), specialists in both technical and non-technical workplace safety and performance, has added an industry-first training programme to its extensive portfolio.
The course, aimed at drilling rig electricians, has been developed in conjunction with a leading offshore drilling services provider and recognises that until now, industry-standard training for the role has not existed. Whilst drilling rig electricians will have typically developed the necessary knowledge and skills through in-house training, this new four-day course aims to standardise and refresh their capabilities, further enhancing the skills and competence of personnel.
Explaining the industry relevance of the new course, PFC technical director, Brian Crichton said: “Without regular updates to skills learned either from colleagues or from previous training, there is a very real risk of complacency when it comes to carrying out electrical activities in the workplace. The Drilling Rig Electricians’ course places a strong emphasis upon the non-technical knowledge and skills required to mitigate that risk.”
PFC’s courses represent a unique offering in the industry as the firm utilises its exclusive, in-house designed high fidelity power distribution simulator throughout the company’s technical course portfolio.
Brian continues: “Using simulator-based practical exercises, this course is highly interactive and focuses in on the human factors – i.e. the non-technical skills - that complement the technical training to provide a highly competent workforce.
“In common with many of our programmes, this course is designed to not only improve technical ability, but crucially leaves participants better equipped to understand their role, make decisions and understand the effects of stress and other factors on performance.”
As suppliers to a substantial number of the world’s leading oil and gas companies and government bodies, PFC offers a portfolio of 16 technical and non-technical training courses, many of which are City and Guilds-accredited, as well as providing tailored training and consultancy services to high hazard industries on a worldwide basis. PFC leads the way in ensuring that all industries comprehend the importance of complementary technical and non-technical skills training.
