Members of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) (UK) joined NorthLink Ferries Managing Director Stuart Garrett and Freight Manager Kris Bevan on board the firm’s MV Hrossey in Aberdeen for a special event.

The visit was a chance for key logistics and transport professionals in Aberdeen and the North East to learn about the innovative changes that have been introduced to the service since 2012, when Serco began managing the lifeline passenger and freight service to the Northern Isles.

The event included a tour of the vessel facilities and an opportunity for CILT (UK) members to find out more about the success of the firm’s freight, logistics and livestock operation.

Paul Finch, Scottish Committee Member and organiser of the CILT (UK) event, said: “NorthLink is seen as an important element of Aberdeen’s transport network by key businesses in the North East. The event was a chance for the local industry to learn about the service, and it was clear that many hadn’t appreciated the sheer variety of the operation, the new innovations to the service, and the regularity of the service.”

Kris Bevan, Freight Manager for NorthLink Ferries, added: “Working with the CILT (UK) and taking part in these events offers member businesses an opportunity to learn best practice, make connections and develop their own logistics offering. We were delighted to be able to share our experience in growing the NorthLink Ferries service, and are confident that the relationships that were formed during the event will lead to positive future discussions.”
