The captain of the Solong cargo ship carrying sodium cyanide has been arrested in connection with its devastating North Sea collision with a US oil tanker.
The Portuguese cargo ship crashed into the US vessel Stena Immaculate - which was carrying jet fuel - off the coast of East Yorkshire on Monday, sparking explosions and a fierce blaze.
One crew member from the Solong ship remains missing, with the search having been called off.
Now, the BBC reports, the 59-year-old captain of the cargo ship has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.
Ernst Russ, the cargo vessel's German company owner, told the BBC the man arrested is the master of the ship.
Coastguard heroes rescued 36 people in the wake of the collision, but the one missing members of the Solong crew is presumed dead.
