Local business leaders are set to be ‘jailed’ to raise vital funds for a North-east charity.

Maggie’s Aberdeen is bringing back its ‘Jail or Bail’ event later this month, following the success of last year’s fundraiser which raised an impressive £47,000.

Fourteen prominent chief executive officer's, business owners, and senior executives will swap suits for black and white-striped jumpsuits and handcuffs. They’ll face a mock trial, get their ‘mug shots’ taken, and have their bail set by a judge.

The participants will then be locked in a ‘cell’ with nothing but a laptop and a phone. They can only secure their release by raising the set amount of ‘bail’ money, which will go directly to supporting the thousands of individuals battling cancer with the help of Maggie’s Aberdeen.

Participants include Matthew Finnie from Finnies the Jeweller, who stands accused of wearing too many watches. Lynne Duncan of Duncano's Bistro in Westhill faces charges of sneaking off for weekly blow-dries and Reformer Pilates sessions, only to "reappear behind the bar" shortly thereafter. And Adam Wilson of PCL Live is being charged with an "unwavering commitment" to playing country rock at every available opportunity.

Andrew Smith of KLT Networking, a new member of the Maggie’s fundraising board, will be joining the event for the first time.

“I’ve been ‘charged’ with talking too much about the importance of networking – I suppose I knew it would catch up with me eventually,” he said.

“I'm very excited about taking part in this year's Aberdeen Jail or Bail for Maggie’s. It sounds like there's great team spirit and I'm sure we'll all have a good time as we raise as much money as possible.

“It's an amazing charity, with a great team of staff and volunteers who do so much for those in need. I'm looking forward to giving my support to add value to all that they do.”
