NorDan UK's StormGuard windows will now have a unique 30-year warranty as standard*. Initially launched in the early 1960s, over eight million StormGuard units have been sold with virtually no call-backs.
Designed for harsh Scandinavian winters, StormGuard features robust internal gearing and a simple yet innovative three-handle tilt-and-turn locking system that makes the window safe, secure, and airtight while still being easy to use and maintain.
With timber at the core, like all NorDan windows, StormGuard has significantly lower embodied carbon values than PVC alternatives, while its design helps keep homes warmer, helping to reduce both energy bills and carbon emissions. Watch the video for the full StormGuard story.
Announcing the launch of the market-leading warranty, Craig Greenwood, managing director of NorDan UK, said: "StormGuard has become a design classic because it looks great and works brilliantly. We know the demands from social landlords, including low maintenance, energy efficiency and longevity - attributes that perfectly describe StormGuard.
"Over eight million StormGuard windows have been sold since its launch in 1962 with hardly any call-backs. Many are still in use, and some even have a second life after being repurposed into new buildings. We are proud of the StormGuard design and track record and felt we needed to give it the ultimate backing, which is why each new StormGuard window now comes with a 30-year warranty".
Because of its energy efficiency and minimal maintenance requirements, NorDan's StormGuard has become increasingly popular with housing associations and local authorities for new build and refurbishment projects.
River Clyde Homes, one of Scotland's largest social landlords, installed almost 340 StormGuard windows as part of a £4 million regeneration and retrofit project at Prospecthill Court, a 16-storey tower block in Greenock.
Richard Orr, head of asset and regeneration at River Clyde Homes, explained the reason for using StormGuard: "Extending the lifespan and performance of materials is crucial to reducing whole-life carbon emissions in homes. When materials last longer, it reduces the need for replacements, which cuts down on the embodied carbon associated with manufacturing new products. Also, longer-lasting materials often maintain energy efficiency over time, minimising the building's operational carbon footprint.
"This focus on durability and performance over a 60-year lifespan is essential to River Clyde Homes achieving our goal of sustainable and environmentally friendly homes. By investing in products designed to endure, we can considerably reduce the overall carbon footprint of our buildings."
StormGuard was created following traditional Scandinavian window design. It is built from engineered timber using advanced vacuum impregnation to maximise durability, even from the harshest elements. It prevents corrosion in environments by the sea or in areas with high levels of pollution.
As a result, StormGuard windows are GSB Grade C5 Sea Proof Plus certified, the only manufacturer in Europe to meet this standard.
The three-handle tilt and turn locking system is unique but so simple that it requires minimal maintenance. It can also be tailored for any need via multi-sash configurations, such as wheelchair user accessibility.
StormGuard's adaptable design includes a removable bottom handle for controlled ventilation, ensuring safety in bedrooms, hotels, hospitals, high-rise buildings and student accommodation projects.
StormGuard's locking system's strength and performance are why it has Secured by Design certification, a police initiative that aims to safeguard homes against intruders.
