NHS Grampian is advertising for a new chief executive - with a salary of up to £182,000 - after interim chief Adam Coldwells announced his imminent retirement.
Coldwells will retire from the role later this year, but will stay in the post until his successor is appointed.
He had only been in the job for little more than a year, having been appointed in December 2023.
It comes, the P&J reports, amid challenging times for the Grampian health board as it battles financial and operational issues.
In a video message to staff on last week, he said the financial position “continues to be very challenging”, adding: “Undoubtedly, next year, the year after, the year after, we’re going to face really tough financial times.
“We will only get to a sustainable position with absolutely everyone joining in and everyone being part of creating a sustainable good health and care system within a financial envelope we all feel could be bigger.”
In November, NHS Grampian declared a critical incident and had to redirect patients to other hospitals as "extreme pressure" and "high demand" overwhelmed the service.
