North-east surface treatment specialist Nexus has completed the purchase of its workshop building in Stonehaven in the latest stage of its investment programme.
The 1,100m2 site is located in the town’s Spurryhillock business park and includes office space, as well as the workshop and yard.
The acquisition follows a six-figure investment in new equipment last year, which included a new crane, industrial furnace and blasting cabinet.
The investment programme is designed to assist the surface treatment specialist’s advance into new markets, while retaining its existing reputation for quality and reliability.
Managing director Ronnie Watt said: “The purchase of the building – which we’ve occupied since 2012 - is part of our plan for growth, to support our diversification and allow us to build on existing success.
“We built our reputation protecting equipment in the demanding environments of marine and oil and gas, and we’re finding increasing demand for this level of performance from other hazardous or high-performance industries.
“Purchasing the workshop building provides an element of control and security for both the business and its workforce.
“It’s vital to us that we continue to provide the quality of service our clients have come to expect in the last 20 years, as well as support new clients as we expand into other sectors, such as renewable energy and food & drink.”
Alongside the recent successful audit and renewal of the Stonehaven-based business’s ISO 14001 accreditation, the acquisition also underlines their commitment to controlling the environmental impact of its activities.
An extensive refurbishment and upgrade is planned for next year which will let the business continue its carbon footprint reduction, a move Nexus sees as important in its own net zero journey.
“New equipment means we are working more efficiently, consuming less energy in our activities and producing less waste,” said Mr Watt.
“For example, our two new electric pallet trucks which replaced a diesel forklift have contributed to a 30% reduction in total diesel emissions. And our new blast cabinet uses 15% less energy and produces 20% less waste.
“In addition, we’ve recently installed a new air filtration system that offers both environmental and staff safety benefits.
“Continuous improvement is an important ambition within Nexus, and these investments reflect our commitment to improving both our performance and the quality of our service, as well as identify efficiencies and improve client relationships.
