Nexos was delighted to welcome MSP Kevin Stewart to its Nord facility this week as part of Apprenticeship Week, reinforcing the company’s commitment to developing the next generation of energy professionals.
During his visit, Mr. Stewart met with nexos’ apprentices, who are gaining hands-on experience across a range of disciplines, including fabrication, electrical work, and engineering design. The apprentices, who work on both traditional and next-generation energy projects, showcased how nexos is equipping them with the skills needed to support both legacy oil and gas operations and the evolving low-carbon energy sector.
Speaking on the visit, Kevin Stewart MSP said: "Scotland’s energy sector has long been built on a foundation of expertise, and it is fantastic to see a company like Nexos investing in the workforce of the future. Their apprenticeship program is a brilliant example of how businesses can provide young people with the skills and experience needed to thrive in an evolving industry."
Each year, nexos welcomes an intake of early careers professionals and in 2024 they had more than 10 apprentices, offering a structured program that combines mentorship, hands-on learning, and exposure to live energy projects. With a strong emphasis on bridging the gap between traditional oil and gas expertise and emerging energy technologies, the program plays a vital role in securing a skilled workforce for the industry’s future.
Kelly Golightly, HR director at nexos, added: "At nexos, we are committed to ensuring our early careers talent gains exposure to the full energy mix. Our apprentices are actively contributing to projects ranging from oil and gas decarbonisation efforts to the development of onshore hydrogen and synthetic fuel plants. By working across traditional and alternative energy sectors, they are developing the adaptable skillsets needed to support the industry’s transformation. Investing in our apprentices is not just about training individuals—it’s about securing the future of energy with a highly skilled and versatile workforce."
As nexos continues to support the energy transition, its apprentices will play a key role in ensuring the industry retains critical expertise while embracing new and sustainable solutions.
