New partnership will bring strategic insight to North-east businesses

ABERDEEN & Grampian Chamber of Commerce has announced it is to partner with the University of Aberdeen Business School on its 2020 programme of business breakfasts.

The flagship series, which has been helping North-east organisations translate thinking into action for almost 30 years, will offer a fresh take on the topics of most importance to the business community, providing a learning and networking forum to discuss the issues essential to successful economic growth in the region.

Over the coming year the programme will include events looking at transport and infrastructure, technology, lifelong learning, digital marketing, international trade, taxation and the economy; and climate change and the energy transition.

Seona Shand, membership and events director at the Chamber, said the new partnership brings a raft of benefits to local companies: “An international faculty with world-leading academic credentials and strong professional links with the business community, partnering with the Business School and it’s diverse network offers significant opportunities for us to bring some really exciting, innovative and thought provoking speakers to the North-east.

“We have worked closely with the Business School to develop the 2020 series with the current and future needs of regional businesses in mind. Our aim is to provide insight and intelligence that delegates can apply today whilst prompting debate and discussion around what needs to happen to ensure a prosperous tomorrow.”

Professor Martin Meyer, head of school, University of Aberdeen Business School, added: “We are delighted to be partnering with the Chamber to launch a series of breakfasts aimed at developing vision, knowledge and strategic leadership within North-east businesses. This year marks a significant milestone as we celebrate our 525th anniversary in conjunction with the university’s new 20-year strategy, Aberdeen 2040.

“The Business School has seen a significant growth in students, academics and research and we look forward to continuing to build networks to support local and national companies.”

The series kicks off on January 29 with a sell out event exploring ‘Transformational Leadership’, the future of work as seen through the eyes of millennials and the potential implications for organisations.

The next Business Breakfast ‘On the right road’ is being held at The Chester Hotel on March 5, 2020. It will focus on investment in infrastructure with speakers from Transport Scotland and Heathrow’s third runway.
