Stronachs LLP, a full service law practice headquartered in Aberdeen, has announced the appointment of two new partners and associate promotions across its commercial and private client teams.
Now with 16 partners and 115 lawyers and legal support staff, Stronachs is one of the largest independent law firms head-quartered in the North-east.
The new partners are David Chalmers who joins Stronachs’ employment law team from Raeburn Christie Clark & Wallace and James Muir, who has been promoted from senior associate after 10 years in the firm’s specialist energy department.
Corporate and commercial lawyer Ross Linn, based at Stronachs’ Inverness office, and dispute resolution solicitor Bob McDiarmid have been promoted to senior associates. Making the step up to associate from senior solicitor are corporate team lawyer Jamie Hunter and private client solicitor Karen Oliver.
Managing partner of Stronachs, David Rennie, said: “The drop in oil price and the challenges in the North Sea sector are having repercussions across the region from which we are not immune. But these appointments demonstrate our commitment to broadening and deepening the expertise we offer to support our clients, particularly in turbulent times.
“Demand for employment law services has risen and we are seeing growth in sectors such as property and construction. Our diverse spread of private and commercial clients and our capability to handle any requirement from writing wills to major transactions for E&P companies, means we are well-positioned to weather the downturn. Equally, the scope and diversity of work allow us to attract and retain some of the best legal talent in the North-east.”
David Chalmers brings more than 20 years’ experience to Stronachs’ rapidly growing employment law team. He has a background in a broad range of litigation, including defending offshore health and safety and environmental prosecutions. More recently, he has focused on employment law and employment related litigation. A Member of the Employment Lawyers Association (ELA), he is dual qualified in English and Scottish law.
James Muir has progressed from trainee with the firm in 2005 to partner which, according to Mr Rennie, demonstrates the firm’s commitment to developing its people. He joined Stronachs on completion of his Diploma from the University of Aberdeen in 2005. Mr Muir advises on a wide range of corporate and commercial matters including acquisitions and disposals, equity investments and intellectual property.
With its roots firmly in the North-east and a legal heritage stretching back over 150 years, Stronachs continues to grow through an ambitious five year plan which will see further appointments in the coming months.
The firm provides legal services to private and commercial clients in all sectors including agriculture, banking, energy, property and construction from its base in Inverness as well as Aberdeen. Stronachs is also a well-respected residential property legal and estate agency firm across the Highlands and Islands, Moray, Banff and Buchan, and Aberdeen City and Shire.
