Over 14 months, the team at Muckrach Country House Hotel poured their heart and souls into the project, stripping the hotel back to its granite and starting again.
Re-plumbing and re-wiring was carried out to ensure that a Victorian shooting lodge built in 1861 could offer the grandeur of the period but also the luxury and comfort of today. Muckrach Country House Hotel opened on April 30, 2015.
There are thirteen individually designed bedrooms (two available are dog-friendly) with Hypnos beds, chandeliers, contemporary bathrooms, fabric wallpapers and unique wall art. The public rooms offer opulence and comfort; the Library allows you to relax in the Chesterfields whilst enjoying a coffee and reading your book and the Drawing Room lends itself to an afternoon tea with friends or a pre-dinner gin & tonic.
The Coffee Shop and Restaurant offers food from Breakfast through to dinner, the menus created by Head Chef Rayner Muller, a South African 27 year old with the drive to make a name for himself and the hotel. A Coffee Shop offering during the day and a Brasserie-style Restaurant by night, the team uses the freshest and best local and seasonal ingredients, working closely with local suppliers. Clare bakes everyday supplying the kitchen with delicious cakes, quiches and muffins, Patrick from the local farm supplies the beef for Sunday roasts, Stuart of Grants of Speyside supplies meat, haggis and black pudding and Billy brings the fresh fish.
The bar, designed with a whisky bar-feel, has more than 70 whiskies, many of which are from Speyside, 30 gins, of which 12 are Scottish, local beer from Cairngorm Brewery, a wine & champagne selection, a cocktail menu and a ‘Grazing menu’ offering light bite food all day.
To date, Muckrach Country House Hotel has recieved the following awards:
- Four star grading 2015 by Visit Scotland within five weeks of opening
- Taste our Best quality assurance award for 2015/16
- Shortlisted for New Business award in the Highlands and Islands Food & Drink awards (results in October 2015)
