Aberdeen’s newest community is hosting an inaugural summer festival on 17th of August. The event, which will be open to the public, not just local residents, will showcase the stunning setting of Countesswells and the investment in the design of the green spaces.
Countesswells, located 10 minutes west of Aberdeen, will bring a host of local food and drink stalls as well as fun activities and live music for children and adults at its Summer Festival. Offering an onsite farmers’ market, the event next month will also include live music and a treasure hunt in the blossoming community.
Project director, Ryan Swan explained: “The up-front investment in the landscaping and surroundings of Countesswells has meant that, since our first residents moved in over two years ago, the parkland has matured and we’re keen to show the pubic how unique it is. We’ve also been working hard to create a real sense of community which blends old-fashioned values and features with modern infrastructure and contemporary design.”
Designed with the aim of creating one of the greenest and most attractive environments in which to live and work, Countesswells has invested time and money in creating an established place so that as residents move in, and the community continues to grow, they have access to a thriving, natural bio-diverse environment that promotes health, well-being and a direct connection with nature.
Ryan continued: “We’re always excited to welcome the wider North-east community to Countesswells. Following the official opening of our community orchard at the start of summer and almost a year since our first Bio-Blitz, we’re thrilled to be bringing some of the very best local producers to our new town.”
Taking place from 11 am – 4 pm on Saturday, August 17, the event will include exhibitors, So on Fire and pop up bar, Symposium Coffee, Bannerman Butcher, Louise’s Farm Kitchen and more. Included in the fun and games will be a chance to explore the beautiful, roaming landscape around Countesswells as part of a treasure hunt, the chance to decorate your own plant pots and face-painting from Happy Campers Face Painting as well as live music from local artists.
Although free to attend, the developers are proud to be using the festival as an opportunity to raise funds for the town’s primary school.
Ryan said: “We currently have a class of 32 Countesswells children who will have been taught up until now at Airyhall Primary. With numbers going up, they are set to move to Hazlewood School after summer to continue their learning, as the new Countesswells Primary School begins development on site. We thought this would be a great opportunity to raise some funds for the school which will go into buying arts and crafts materials and the like for the children to enjoy.”
Countesswells’ newly launched bus service, the number 44, will be running every half hour on the day with a direct connection between Kingswells Park and Ride and the town.
