The Law Practice Solicitors & Estate Agents has announced it will donate a percentage of its profits from all wills instructed during the summer months to Alzheimer Scotland.
Monies are to go specifically towards care and support at the new Aberdeen Dementia Resource Centre, opening in September 2015.
The new establishment, located at 13 King Street, Aberdeen, will be open for anyone seeking advice about dementia to drop-in whilst serving as a meeting place for people with dementia and their families. It will also be a base for Alzheimer Scotland staff and some of the activity and support groups they run.
Margaret Waldron, principal solicitor and owner at The Law Practice, said: “Dementia can be a challenging condition to live with, both for the person with the diagnosis and their family too. The number of people living with dementia is increasing as we’re blessed with longer lives.
“There is an appropriate link with ourselves as solicitors because it’s important that everyone plans ahead. We must all consider setting up Wills and powers of attorney, particularly as we get older. The preparation is a reasonably straightforward process. But without a Will in place there can be issues that are time consuming and costly to resolve at a time likely to already be very difficult.
Alzheimer Scotland does such valuable work and we’re delighted to be able to support such a deserving cause. We’re especially keen to reach out to local charities so the new Resource Centre in Aberdeen is a perfect opportunity.”
Sarah Geoghegan, policy and engagement manager with Alzheimer Scotland, said: “We’re delighted that the Law Practice has chosen to support our new Resource Centre in Aberdeen. It will be a vital point of contact for people with dementia and for their families to receive information and support. We want to help people with a diagnosis to live well with their dementia and maintain a full and active life for as long as possible.”
This effort from The Law Practices comes as part of principal solicitor Margaret Waldron’s plans to support ten individual local charities during 2015, her tenth year of business.
