A group of Aberdeen-based business people are hosting an event aimed at raising awareness for local charities following a successful launch day.

Members of the popular networking group, Aberdeen Business Network, are working together to organise ‘Good Causes Day’, a fun day where families can come together to raise awareness for charities including AFC Community Trust, Diabetes UK, the Archie Foundation, MeToo Magazine, Gathimba Edwards, VSA, Glencraft, Befriend a Child and Children 1st among others.

The event, taking place on Sunday, June 26 at Aberdeen Sports Village will host a number of stalls and activities including children’s round-robin football festival and a penalty shoot-out with mascots from the charities. These include special guest mascots from Aberdeen FC, Angus the Bull and Donny the Sheep.

Members of ABN will then take to the pitch to battle it out in the main event for the GCAFF Cup (Good Causes Awareness Family Fun Day Cup).

Scott McDougall, ABN member and organiser of the fun day, said: “We’re really looking forward to hosting this event and there has already been lots of interest following a brilliant launch day.

“Our idea came from a desire to bring together as many charitable organisations as possible from across the city to celebrate the great work that they do and raise further awareness of their worthy causes.”

Colin Cross, fellow ABN networker and organiser of Good Causes Day, said: “We’re really grateful to Aberdeen Sports Village for providing us with a great venue and we hope that families from across the area can come along and enjoy themselves at what promises to be a fantastic day out.”

The event will kick off from 12.30pm with full-time expected at around 4.45pm.

Further attractions ongoing throughout Good Causes Day will include face painting, and bouncy castles for children. Popular characters and Super Heroes will also be on hand to open the event, sign autographs and pose for photos.

Many of the charities in attendance will have stalls set up with lots more fun activities for event-goers to participate in, while also providing information on the work that they do including how people become actively involved in improving the lives of others.
