Businesses and organisations across the North-east can now apply for up to £10,000 to boost local projects that encourage Travel Planning and increase sustainable travel.
Regional Transport Partnership, Nestrans, is relaunching its sustainable travel grant scheme, which helps to fund environmentally friendly travel solutions across the region.
The scheme has been instrumental in funding and supporting a wealth of travel projects for more than 20 years. From installing secure cycle parking, creating or improving showering and changing facilities, improving pedestrian access to workplaces, or funding surveys to help create effective travel plans.
Recent examples of grant funding include supporting Camphill Estates, as they redesigned and renovated their showering and changing facilities for those walking or cycling to the site. In addition, the fund was used to support Huntly Development Trust with the purchase of 10 E-bikes to expand the community E-bike scheme in Huntly.
Grants can range from £500 to £10,000, up to a maximum of 50% of any proposal with the applicant required to provide match funding. The scheme is now encouraging applications to be submitted before Thursday, October 31, 2024.
Councillor Alan Turner, chair of Nestrans, said, “We have a great deal of organisations in the North-east who are very proactive in adopting sustainable and environmentally friendly travel practices. Nestrans is pleased to be able to support and empower these organisations to implement projects, schemes or travel plans that promote sustainable travel.”

A sister scheme, the Community Sustainable Travel Grant, was introduced in 2021 aimed at community groups and small charities, without the need for match-funding. This grant is due to re-launch in November.
