A leading Aberdeen based events management company, which is behind the success of both Banchory and Inverurie Beer Festival, has been officially announced as the first festival organisers to pledge support to a new environmental recycling campaign.
MFGF Events, which was established in 2014, has committed its support to the Not-for-Landfill campaign. The environmental recycling campaign was created by Aberdeen’s One Stop Waste Solutions Ltd, marking its ten year anniversary in providing integrated waste and recycling services.
The Not-for-Landfill campaign was launched in April 2016 to support the Scottish Government’s Zero Waste objectives, and to further motivate businesses to help reduce pollution in the area by encouraging them to reduce, reuse, repair and recycle waste materials.
The campaign, which has over 48 business signed up to the initiative already, has seen over 240 tonnes of recyclable waste diverted from local landfills since April 1st 2016.
Supported by local organisations including, Keenan Recycling, Instant Neighbour, Befriend a Child, Cyrenians and Wood Recyclability, the campaign is designed to help reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfill sites in the North East of Scotland.
Mungo Finlayson, co-founder and operations director of MFGF events, said: “We are delighted to be the first events company to pledge our support to the nationwide campaign by reducing recyclable waste at our festivals. Over the past three years we have become more and more aware of our carbon footprint and have always maximised on recycling opportunities where possible.
“We up-cycle a lot of materials, building our own bars with old palettes and potato boxes, and also recycle all cardboard, paper, plastic, and cans at the festival already. Implementing and joining the Not-for-Landfill campaign will ensure that all of our events boast a sustainable approach in becoming much more environmentally friendly. This is something we are very passionate about and by getting involved, we hope to influence and encourage others to follow in our footsteps.”
One Stop Waste Not-for-Landfill campaign manager, Stuart Youngson, commented: “We are thrilled that MFGF Events has joined the campaign and as such that The Banchory Beer Festival will be the first Not-for-Landfill event in the world!
“Our aim was to create a free, green, network and resource that would support and promote the good work that organisations are doing to avoid landfill. With forward-thinking companies like MFGF Events on board we aim to achieve our other targets too like saving at least 1000 tonnes of waste from going to landfill collectively in the first year. And we are also looking forward to sampling the beer at the festival.”
The environmental campaign will be implemented for the first time at MFGF events next festival, The Banchory Beer Festival, which takes place on Friday 12 to Sunday 14 August 2016 at the Deeside Rugby Club pitches. Tickets to the three-day event are on sale now.
