Munro’s Travel is advising its clients and marine and energy sector travellers to review all travel plans involving London Heathrow Airport following its full-day closure due to a significant power outage caused by a fire at a nearby substation in west London.

As one of the world’s busiest international airports, the closure of Heathrow is already causing widespread disruption across global travel networks. All flights to and from the airport today (Friday 21 March) have been cancelled or diverted.

Murray Burnett, managing director of Munro’s Travel, says: “Our priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of our travellers, particularly those working in critical energy, renewables and marine operations. The situation at Heathrow is evolving, and we are working closely with clients, airlines and partners to reroute or rebook affected travellers and minimise disruption to essential crew movements.”

Traveller Advice from Munro’s Travel:

  • Do not travel to Heathrow Airport today. All flights are suspended.
  • Check with your airline before setting out for the airport in the coming days.
  • Contact your Munro’s Travel team for assistance with rebooking, alternative routings or accommodation support.
  • Stay updated through official airport channels and digital news media as recovery plans are announced.
  • For urgent requirements, our 24/7 emergency support remains in place and fully operational.

Heathrow’s closure is expected to have a knock-on effect across the wider UK and international network, particularly over the weekend. Munro’s Travel clients are encouraged to review any non-essential travel and prioritise essential operations.

Murray Burnett adds: “We are working round the clock to support our clients and crews in maintaining operations safely and with as little interruption as possible.”
