Muir Group plans to add more high quality units at Aberdeen Gateway

Property developer Muir Group has underlined its commitment to the Aberdeen commercial property sector with the submission of a planning application for the development of three further industrial units at its flagship Aberdeen Gateway Business Park.

The units, approximately 15,000sq.ft each will provide high quality workshop and office accommodation with secure yard space. Muir is confident the units will prove attractive to businesses keen to secure premises with rapid access to transport links in and out of Aberdeen.

Muir Group is also in the process of completing Unit E8 at Aberdeen Gateway. The building will be ready for occupation in April and was speculatively built following the successful letting of Unit E7 to ERIKS Industrial Services in November 2016. Unit E8 comprises a 10,000 sq ft workshop, 4.500 sq ft office building over 2 levels and a secure yard of circa 17,000 sq ft.

ERIKS agreed a 15-year lease on a new purpose-built unit which includes 15,000 sq.ft of workshop, 4,500sq.ft of offices and 9,825sq.ft of yard at the development located at Cove on the south side of the city.

Claire Herriot, senior surveyor for letting agent Knight Frank in Aberdeen, which represents Muir Group, said: “Despite challenging market conditions in Aberdeen there is still demand from occupiers for new high quality premises.

“Aberdeen Gateway benefits from being the prime industrial location on the southern side of the city with excellent transport links that will only be enhanced by the imminent completion of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral route. Muir Group is working with prospective customers and the latest planning application, if approved, would allow construction to begin on the first of the units.”

Ewan Black, development director of Muir Group, said: “While it may be too early to suggest there is a substantial recovery in the local commercial market, we are seeing a degree of cautious optimism within the sector. That is why we have submitted planning applications for these units.

“We continue to develop first-class accommodation at Aberdeen Gateway and we look forward to welcoming further high calibre occupiers.”

Sitting close to the A90 dual carriageway, and in close proximity to Aberdeen Harbour, Aberdeen Gateway has been successful in attracting occupiers from across the oil and gas sector including Total, Cameron, Ensco, Hydrasun and Oil States. Since the launch in 2007, more than 31 acres of land and 525,000 sq.ft of office and warehouse space has been developed at Aberdeen Gateway.
