An SNP MSP has been stripped of the party whip following what the SNP described as "utterly abhorrent comments" about the conflict in Gaza.
John Mason, MSP for Glasgow Shettleston, posted on social media claiming Israel's actions in Gaza did not amount to "genocide".
Mr Mason said he was "disappointed" by the suspension.
The online post came days after Angus Robertson was photographed standing alongside Daniela Grudsky, Israel's deputy ambassador to the UK.
A number of SNP figures have been highly critical of Israel's conduct in the Middle East and were said to be unhappy about the meeting.
In a post regarding the conflict on X, Mr Mason said: "There is no genocide. If Israel wanted to commit genocide, they would have killed many many more."
Soon after, the whip was removed from Mr Mason meaning he is effectively expelled from the SNP and will sit as an independent MSP for the time being.
The SNP Chief Whip said: "To flippantly dismiss the death of more than 40,000 Palestinians is completely unacceptable.
"There can be no room in the SNP for this kind of intolerance."
Mr Mason spoke out on Facebook after losing the whip. He said: "I personally do not believe that Israel has tried to commit, has committed, or is committing genocide.
"They certainly have the ability to kill many more Palestinians than they have done. That is not to say that the loss of life already is not too many.
"And we should remember that it is Iran and Hamas who have stated that they want Israel wiped off the map… that sounds more like an intention of genocide than anything Israel has said or done."
