More buyers and sellers Think Thainstone for specialist auctions

Thainstone hosted its sixth collective machinery sale of the year on Saturday 17th August, which saw more than 2,000 buyers and sellers in attendance at Thainstone Centre. The auction featured an entry of 2,500 items and achieved a strong sales rate of 80%.

Mark Barrack, head of Thainstone Specialist Auctions, said: “The sale saw a consistent trade across all categories and there was a strong demand for good quality, ready-to-work plant, machinery and equipment. The highlight of the day came from a fleet of ex-local authority vans which attracted a wide interest from both on-site and online buyers.

“We’re particularly pleased to see more and more customers Think Thainstone when buying or selling plant, machinery or equipment. The recent opening of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route has certainly improved the road infrastructure and connectivity from the south and we have seen an increased entry from the Angus, Tayside and Perthshire areas.

“We had buyers on-site from all over the UK, Ireland and Europe take advantage of Scotland’s largest specialist auction, and more than 60 online bidders participating live from around the world.”

Tim McDonald, senior auctioneer at Aberdeen and Northern Marts, said: “The agricultural section saw a good selection of lots on offer and strong prices were achieved throughout the day, exceeding sellers’ expectations. Good, second-hand agricultural machinery is currently meeting a strong trade and we encourage those interested in realising their goods to get in touch with our team well ahead of the September sale to allow for adequate marketing of machinery.”

The top selling item, a 2013 Volvo FH16 750 6x4 artic truck in the heavy commercials section, achieved £40,000 at the auction. The tractor and plant category saw a 2015 JCB 3CX excavator realise £37,200 and a 2018 Renault Traffic L29 Sport Nav panel van achieve £11,500 in the light commercials and 4x4s section. A Fleetwood Heritage four berth caravan led the trailers and containers category with a top price of £3,000, and a Houghton Parkhouse 28’ float and trailer made £10,100 in the implements section.

The live and online event is hosted eight times per year at Thainstone Centre, Scotland’s premier auction centre. The sale is well-attended by both on-site and online buyers and sellers, with buyers from across UK, Ireland and Northern Ireland making substantial purchases through the sale’s online platform.

The next plant, machinery and equipment sale is scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 9am at Thainstone. Consignors are encouraged to submit their entries as soon as possible to receive maximum exposure to potential buyers.
