Leading UK commercial law firm Maclay Murray & Spens LLP (MMS) has hired five McClure Naismith partners and around 30 staff.
This follows the announcement that Tom MacLennan and Iain Fraser, partners with FRP Advisory, have been appointed joint administrators to McClure Naismith LLP.
The staff, which include administrative and legal personnel from McClure\'s corporate, consumer finance, dispute resolution, real estate and private client practices, will be based in MMS\' London and Glasgow offices.
In 2013, MMS hired seven partners from Semple Fraser LLP, following that firm’s announcement that it had entered administration.
Kenneth Shand, chief executive of MMS, said: “The opportunity to hire a talented and committed group of individuals such as this is rare. Those joining us will augment our existing teams, enabling us to further extend our client reach and capabilities. It reinforces our development of the firm through a multi-faceted approach, both nurturing internal talent and bringing in lateral hires.\"
The announcement follows the recruitment of capital projects partner Stewart Maciver earlier this month and the promotion of some 40 lawyers (including six new partners) in June.
Joining MMS on 31 August 2015, are:
Wilson Aitken (property – Glasgow)
Morag Campbell (corporate/finance - Glasgow)
Frank Johnstone (consumer finance/debt recovery - Glasgow)
Philip Sewell (dispute resolution - London)
Robin Shannan (corporate/finance - Glasgow)
