Meldrum House unveils plans for new £4.5m extension

The four-star Meldrum House Country Hotel & Golf Course in Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire, is planning a new state-of-the-art conference and banqueting suite and an additional 28 luxurious guest bedrooms.

Currently AA Hotel of the Year for Scotland, the £4.5 million investment will create an entirely new wing, as well as increase the number of bedrooms to 51. Ready for June 2016, this will bring an additional requirement for 15 jobs at the property, taking the total number of staff employed at the hotel to over 100.

Commenting on the project, CEO Andy Burgess said: “The new function suite will be a great addition to Meldrum House. It will provide us with the ability to offer 3 conference rooms, more than double our bedroom capacity as well as a provide a banqueting suite with capacity for up to 200 people which will be unrivalled for the area. It will make a perfect venue, in a tranquil environment for conferences, meetings, weddings and events coupled with world-class accommodation. Not only that, but the development will be marketed to new visitors from all over the world as well as create new jobs and major benefits to the local economy.”

The new development will be a stunning glass addition to the back of the baronial mansion house whilst respecting the entrance and setting it already has. From the function suite and new bedrooms there will be views across the golf course and countryside beyond. Guests will also be able to access the gardens directly from the function suite.

Meldrum House is set in 240 acres and is privately owned with the main building dating back almost 800 years. This is the first extension to the hotel since a complete renovation was carried out in 2009 and the new wing will span over 950 square metres.
