A new innovative course offering students the opportunity to study for a professional qualification in corporate governance has been launched at Robert Gordon University (RGU).
The new Masters in Corporate Governance: Policy and Regulation has been developed by staff in the Department of Management at Aberdeen Business School, in close collaboration with colleagues from the Law School and Department of Accounting and Finance. The new MSc brings together key areas of law, strategy and finance and places these in a global context.
Postgraduate Programme Manager Kirsteen Close, who has developed the new course said: “The development of such a programme is particularly timely and relevant at the moment given the increased regulatory and media scrutiny of organisations across all sectors. This is especially true in the wake of the global financial crisis and the many high-profile corporate failures we’ve witnessed in recent years.
“A corollary to the increasing focus on corporate behaviour is the attention being given to the qualifications of directors and senior officials of organisations to carry out their corporate roles and responsibilities with the highest levels of competence, accountability and ethical standards. Such roles are incresingly being seen as a ‘profession’, making the possession of formal qualifications such as the MSc Corporate Governance: Policy and Regulation extremely desirable.”
The MSc Corporate Governance will have its first intake in September and will initially be available in full-time mode. A distance learning version will be available from September 2016. The course is particularly relevant to law, accounting and management graduates as well as people already working in a governance role, although applications from graduates of other disciplines will also be considered.
