SSE Renewables is set to cut jobs and halt renewables projects in Scotland, blaming supply costs and falling market prices.
The Times reports SSE Renewables managing director Stephen Wheeler sent a memo to staff explaining that the impacts of a range of economic and other factors could no longer be ignored.
SSE Renewables has had controls on recruitment in place since September but is now consulting over the planned 148 redundancies and investigate possible redeployment to avoid cuts.
Wheeler, who will also pause or stop a number of renewable projects, said he deeply regretted having to take the measures.
He explained all markets were experiencing a “range of drivers” that were having a negative impact on revenue. These include increasing supply chain costs, high interest rates and falling market prices.
It comes after SSE last month announced 55 job losses from its energy services division in Northern Ireland.
