Scottish salmon exports have leapt 45% to hit a new record high - helped by bumper sales in both France and the US.
Data from HMRC revealed £844million of fish were sold overseas in 2024, blowing the previous record - £618million in 2019 - out of the water.
The data means Scottish salmon keeps its position as the UK's number 1 food export.
The Times reports that statistics also showed salmon volumes for 2024 grew by 59% to 101,466 tonnes, with exports going to 48 different countries.
However, figures from the Office for National Statistics painted a less positive picture, with a decline in overall UK exports contributuing to a drop in the UK's economic growth of 1.5% in Q4.
Also reported in The Times, Sanjay Raja, chief UK economist at Deutsche Bank, said the trade figures marked the “the third worst performance in the postwar period”, adding: “The spectre of a trade war looms large."
FTSE 100
