Lengthy waits for grid connections could cause BP's Morven windfarm 38 miles off Aberdeen to be delayed, The Times reports.
The development is set to be one of the largest windfarms in the UK, able to produce enough electricity to power 3million homes.
It had been expected to start producing power by 2030 - but that target is already in doubt due to queues for grid connection and supply chain shortages.
BP's other two windfarm developments, Mona and Morgan in the Irish Sea, are already hooked up to the grid.
But Morven, the biggest of the three, which are a joint venture with German firm Energie Baden-Württemberg AG (EnBW), is facing challenges.
A spokesman for the Energy Networks Association, the energy industry body, told The Times: “Networks are fully behind the UK government’s clean power mission and are on track to support connecting the first phase of ScotWind in line with developers’ expectations.
"This is of course subject to timely consenting decisions from the relevant planning authorities in Scotland and England.”
FTSE 100
The UK's flagship share index, the FTSE 100, was up 90 points at 8,291 shortly after opening this morning.
Brent crude oil futures were down 0.80%, trading at $74.57 a barrel.
