Our world today is exciting, dynamic and fast moving.

We have never been more connected; with more and more people enjoying better opportunities, better health, better lives.

Our travel systems enable more choice in where we work, where our children go to school, where we take holiday and spend our free time. Our cities provide the heartbeat to our economy.

Our progress depends on a reliable, accessible hydrocarbon energy system to power our homes, our travel; work spaces… even the touchscreen technology on our smart phones.

But with this progress comes a global challenge.

Achieving a decent quality of life for everyone on the planet is driving demand for energy in our cities and our economies; but addressing environmental stresses, including climate change, has never been more important.

The big challenge, simply put, is how the world can produce and consume much more energy while emitting much less CO2.

Renewable energies will eventually become the largest source of energy globally. But this will only be possible in combination with convenient, cleaner hydrocarbons, using technologies such as Carbon Capture and Storage, to address shortcomings of renewables in volume, availability and accessibility.

Together, this can create a global energy system that delivers a suite of complementary low-carbon energy options to power low carbon lives, communities and economies.

This transition to a low-carbon future will happen over time, but over the next few decades we’ll all experience this transition, in big and small ways – from the food that we eat, to the way we power our homes, the way we get around, and the way businesses and cities are organised.

For over a century, Shell has been exploring new energy sources, developing methods, technologies and products that keep our world moving. Investing in bright ideas that enable human progress, and opening up opportunities for passionate people to join the industry. We’ve done this in partnerships with academia, NGO’s, and businesses.

We want to provide more opportunities to explore innovative solutions together.

Across the world students, start-ups and corporations are coming up with bright ideas that will enable change. Ideas that work together, across every aspect of our lives. An interconnected solution for an interconnected world.

Great ideas come from conversation, collaboration, partnerships; great minds coming together.

But even the greatest ideas need support; to be tested, shared, improved and invested in.

This is at the very heart of Shell.

We invite you to be part of it. To step in, experience these ideas in action, try them, support them, improve them, offer your own; join the conversation and help make the future.
