The SNP's net zero and energy chief has signalled a softer approach on oil and gas as she reiterated her party "doesn't have a presumption against exploration".

Speaking to the Press & Journal, Mairi McAllan said the SNP will be more "nuanced" in its approach to tackling the transition, while labelling Sir Keir Starmer's plan "too extreme".

Ms McAllan was in Aberdeen where she toured the multimillion pound Aberdeen South harbour and announced £5.5million in government funding to support various Community Climate Action Hubs.

New First Minister John Swinney has yet to set out his plans on whether the 'presumption against' will remain in the energy strategy when it's published this summer.

Scottish Labour's net zero spokesperson Sarah Boyack has accused the SNP of "abandoning Scots struggling with soaring bills".
