MAC Architects announces new appointment to strengthen business

Due to its continued growth, North-east MAC Architects today (Thursday, February 18) announces a new appointment which further strengthens its position as a leading provider of innovative design solutions across Scotland.

This latest appointment follows a series of new business wins for the RIAS chartered architects practice from commercial and residential sectors. It recently completed an award-winning new build project in Aberdeen’s Stoneywood and played a key role in the recent £1million extension at Insch Primary School. The Newmachar-based company specialises in cutting edge 3D BIM (Building Information Modelling) software – and is one of only a handful of architects in Scotland to offer it as an integrated service to clients.

New start Euan McHardy joins the dynamic team as an architectural technologist, bringing a wealth of skills from industry roles. Working with a diverse range of clients, Euan will be responsible for the creation of bespoke design solutions, undertaking feasibility studies and preparing planning and building warrant applications, as well as playing a part in the company’s new business drive.

Previously Euan, from Alford, held the position of architectural technologist at a leading city practice and was integral to the delivery of new premises for oilfield service company Archer in 2013. From the initial site analysis through to completion, Euan worked with a team to design the 70,000 square-foot site in Blackburn Business Park featuring offices, a workshop and a warehouse. During the six year stint at this private practice, he maintained client relationships and developed an excellent portfolio of contacts.

Most recently, the 29-year-old Robert Gordon University graduate worked with a Scottish house builder as an architectural manager. His role focused on managing the technical and design aspects of housing developments throughout Aberdeen and shire. Joining the business at a time of significant growth, Euan liaised closely with the construction, commercial, sales and land departments.

Blair Milne, one of the directors at MAC Architects says, “For us to remain at the forefront of our industry, we need a skilled and dedicated workforce on board. Euan brings a broad range of commercial sector experience and - combined with our existing strong portfolio - his appointment significantly strengthens our offering to clients.

“He is key to our continued planned growth in the commercial sector and allows us to explore exciting new avenues including working towards our Level 2 BIM Accreditation – a future mandatory requirement of any architect working on public sector projects.

“We are proud to be one of only a few practices in the country to have the very latest BIM software integrated at the core of our business – the next generation 3D modelling software puts 2D firmly in the dark ages. The latest 3D software is truly transforming the way we work with clients. Our team is working hard to encourage sub-contractors, engineers and the council to use and accept it more readily but changing the current 2D mind-set to 3D will take time.”

The BIM concept creates a virtual construction model of any project no matter what size prior to its actual physical construction and helps to increase accuracy, reduce uncertainty, maximise efficiency and simulate and analyse potential impacts.

Blair adds, “I look forward to working with Euan who has joined our growing business at exciting times. He brings a wealth of experience, industry knowledge and enthusiasm which will be a huge asset to MAC Architects.”
