Initial feedback on a study which looks to improve transport between north-east towns and Aberdeen will be heard by Nestrans Board Members today (Friday, Aug 21).
The Fraserburgh and Peterhead to Aberdeen Strategic Transport Study, which was commissioned by Nestrans, along with Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council and Transport Scotland, considers options for improving transport connections along the North-east corridor.
Consultant trio, SIAS, Peter Brett Associates, and Energised Environments have now produced the study’s Baseline Report following a review of all modes of transport including rail, bus, road and active travel connections.
The initial feedback also outlines the results of earlier consultations, key issues raised and the results of an information gathering phase. This included conducting an online public consultation during April and May this year which asked people for their views how the transport network could be improved to support local people.
The new report provides a detailed and in-depth analysis of transport in the area and considers both current and future factors – from the completion of committed projects such as the Balmedie to Tipperty dualling, future housing developments and local development plans, to consideration of how the local economy may change and adapt in the future.
A Pre-Appraisal study will now be produced which will build upon the Baseline Report, identifying appropriate objectives for the project and considering potential options. Thereafter, detailed appraisal can be undertaken assessing each of the short-listed options against the objectives.
It is anticipated that public consultations will take place over the autumn this year and that a stage 1 assessment report will be available early in 2016.
