George Cranstoun, a highly experienced senior business travel consultant at Munro's Travel in Aberdeen, has been recognised for his remarkable 50-year career in business travel.
His journey in the travel industry began in Glasgow in 1975 at Davidson Park and Speed. His career took a significant turn when he joined Denholm World Travel, where he spent eight and a half years working in the company's shipping implant, overseeing travel and logistics for 120 vessels worldwide.
He then ventured into the airline sector, serving as the sole representative for a French airline office.
In 1992, he became a pivotal part of Munro's Travel, where he has dedicated the last 32 years of his career. Reflecting on his extensive experience, George notes that the most significant change over the past five decades has been the shift in communication methods.
He highlights the transition from personal interactions to the dominance of call centres as a notable shift, which is one reason he values Munro's commitment to maintaining a personal touch.
George’s deep-rooted connection with Munro's Travel is down to the company’s ethos about how they treat their team and their clients - not just professional but personal.
Fifteen years ago, he underwent a triple heart bypass. George said: “The last person I saw before my surgery was Murray Burnett, the current managing director of Munro's Travel. The first person I saw upon waking was Murray's father, Jack Burnett, a legendary figure in business travel. Munro's Travel is a family and I am grateful for the supportive environment that has been a cornerstone of my career.”
As a seasoned professional, Cranstoun is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of travel professionals. His advice to those following in his footsteps includes working hard, learning effective communication skills, and respecting everyone they encounter.
Murray Burnett, managing director of Munro’s Travel said: “George Cranstoun's dedication and contribution to the business travel industry stand as a testament to his enduring commitment to the field. His 50-year journey is an inspiring example of excellence and dedication. We’re delighted that our professional body the Scottish Passenger Agents' Association has recognised George’s continuing career.”
