Local company opens up doors to students

Specialist equipment provider to the Energy industry, Patriot International, are delighted to announce that from October 3, they will be welcoming a steady stream of work placement students.

The Aberdeen company are welcoming students from Walsall College to their premises in Oldbury, Birmingham. Following a Health & Safety Audit, Patriot’s facility has been approved as a safe working environment for the students who will be invited to visit the organisation as part of a work experience initiative. Students will also have access to the wealth of knowledge within Patriot’s sister company, Polaris. Polaris, a manpower division, was formed in 2015 to compliment the range of equipment already offered by Patriot.

A lack of new talent being injected into the energy sector in recent times has been identified by the organisation and the future of the industry is at risk unless this changes. Patriot has also recognised that the future of the industry lies with the students and graduates of the moment.

Managing director, Myles Campbell, said: “At Patriot, we recognise that these students are the key to the future of our industry and its success. If Patriot can play a part in helping people through their education and preparing them for work then we will be leaving a legacy for our future”.

Head of Curriculum for Engineering at Walsall College, Neil Sambrook, was equally excited about the news: “We are delighted that Patriot International have teamed up with us to provide work placements for our students. This is a real hands on environment for the students and will provide crucial experience to help them secure permanent employment in the future”.

During their placements at Patriot, students will get the opportunity to learn about the operational, business development and engineering departments to provide a broader knowledge and understanding of the working environment. Hopefully this will be the first of many partnerships with local colleges in Birmingham. In the near future, this programme will also be undertaken at Patriot’s offices in Aberdeen and Dordrecht.
