Somebody Cares SCIO, a prominent charity serving Aberdeen and the shire, is seeking four to six new trustees to join its board.
The organisation, which has been enhancing the welfare of those in need since 2002, is looking for individuals with expertise in PR and Marketing, Finance, Legal, and HR to support its mission.
In 2023, Somebody Cares furnished 813 homes and provided 176,566 meals to those in need. The charity accepts large donations of furniture, household items, clothes, and food, working with local social welfare teams to distribute these items free of charge. Additionally, its two retail outlets – Megastore, Hazlehead and Denmore, Bridge of Don – offer high-quality goods for purchase, with proceeds covering the charity's operating costs.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for professionals to give back to their community," said Yekemi Otaru, interim chief executive officer for Somebody Cares. "We're particularly interested in candidates from under-represented groups and those early in their career journey, as we believe diversity and fresh thinking will improve our effectiveness and impact."
The unpaid role requires an average time commitment of two days per month, including attendance at quarterly board meetings. Trustees will work closely with the chair and staff team to ensure effective governance, determine strategic direction, and advocate for the charity.
More information about the trustee role can be found on the recruitment page of the charity’s website or by emailing hr@somebodycaresscotland.org for a full role description. This is a chance to make a real difference in the lives of those facing hardship in our community.
