Ledingham Chalmers recognised in 2016 Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 listings

The diverse teams at Aberdeen based full-service law firm Ledingham Chalmers have been recognised in the prestigious Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 listings for 2015/2016.

Both the annual Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 surveys identify and rank the most outstanding law firms and lawyers in over 180 jurisdictions around the world based on testimonials from clients and opinions of lawyers across the UK. Nineteen individual lawyers across Ledingham Chalmers are recognised, with the firm ranked in ten practice areas overall.

Partner and chairman Jennifer Young and partner Sarah Stuart continue to be rated as notable practitioners in this year’s rankings due to their specialist knowledge of construction law, alongside senior associates Karen Cameron and Roddy Cormack both listed within Chambers’ “Associates to Watch”. The team is known for a “healthy reputation for its advice to contractors, particular expertise in oil and gas sector matters, and in public procurement issues.”

With the firm hosting one of the biggest teams of commercial property lawyers in Aberdeen, partner David Scott features in the Recognised Practitioner band for planning law in Chambers alongside commercial property head partner Steve Morrice in Legal 500.

The firm’s long established track record for the delivery of corporate and commercial law advice continues to be recognised with the team’s main strengths including traditional mergers and acquisitions and commercial contracts, researchers reported. Partner Malcolm Laing was recognised as a notable practitioner within corporate law by Chambers, with Legal 500 listings acknowledging partners Rod Hutchison and Jody Mitchell for their expertise in corporate & commercial, and banking & finance respectively.

Research on the firm’s corporate and commercial law advice quotes feedback from clients: “I strongly believe they are running an excellent team. The accuracy of the information and their reliability is 110%. The advice is very robust and stands up to all challenges. They understand our business and make the whole experience easier.” The firm’s family law team is commended by Chambers with partner Marion McDonald being recognised by observers for her “great breadth of legal knowledge that goes beyond just family law” as well as the “very knowledgeable” Kirsten Lobban impressing market observers as a talented associate and an “Associate to Watch”.

New for 2016 is Legal 500’s recognition of the firm’s strong offering in commercial litigation in Aberdeen, drawing on its substantial expertise in construction, insolvency, oil and gas, and intellectual property disputes. In personal injury work, partner Graeme Edwards’ attention to detail is recorded as having resulted in some outstanding and important results for employers.

Chairman and Partner Jennifer Young said: “We’re delighted that the quality of our people has been commended at this level by both peers and clients. There is great experience across our teams and I’m pleased this has been reflected in the Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 listings. The firm marks its 25th anniversary next year and I hope we can continue to offer sound, pragmatic advice and tactical guidance for many years more.”
