The extent to which new Europe-wide regulations will radically alter businesses’ approach to data protection will be the focus of a free event in Aberdeen next Friday.

The Scottish full-service law firm has organised the session to give local organisations the chance to find out more about what will change when the GDPR comes into force next May.

Other topics for discussion include how data protection works in practice; the main business risks; as well as advice on how to prepare.

Partner Kirk Tudhope, who leads the firm’s employment law team, said: “From significant amounts of sensitive data held on computers, memory sticks, in the cloud, or simply written or printed on paper, we all hold information about our employees, clients, suppliers and contacts.

“The current duties to protect these details already place significant obligations on us all, but the new GDPR regime will add to the demands we have to meet in handling this data. It also increases the penalties if we are in breach.

“In short, failure to comply presents an unacceptable risk for both ourselves and our businesses.”

Book tickets online for the event at the Village Hotel Aberdeen, Prime Four, Kingswells, Friday, November 3, noon – 2.15pm.
