A group of the country’s leading architects are heading to Aberdeen to take part in a special public Q&A being organised by Robert Gordon University’s (RGU) Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment.
The event, ‘Dissecting Architecture’, will take place on Thursday, May 17 at the Anatomy Rooms and will provide an opportunity for students, staff and members of the public to quiz a panel of academics and practitioners on all things architecture.
Among the architects attending will be Neil Gillespie OBE, director of design at the Edinburgh based practice Reiach and Hall. Neil’s work has been the recipient of numerous national awards, including RIAS & RIBA awards, and most recently shortlisted for the Stirling prize - for the third consecutive year.
Neil will be joined by Prof Alan Dunlop, a respected architect and commentator on current architectural affairs, and Mary Arnold-Forster Architect, who specialises in creating architecture that lifts people’s spirits through the creation of tranquil, humane and discreet spaces.
The panel is completed by Professor Penny Lewis, Ben Addy, Colin Harris, Bruno Silvestre and Robin Webster OBE.
Gillian Wishart, lecturer in architecture at the Scott Sutherland School, commented: “Dissecting Architecture promises to be a really exciting and informative event where we will be able to hear some of the country’s leading architects respond to architectural issues that concern students and public alike.
“We are delighted to have this opportunity to bring architectural discussion and architecture students out into the city and broaden the debate.”
‘Dissecting Architecture’ will follow a similar format to the BBC’s Question Time and members of the public can submit questions prior to the event.
The event is a pre-cursor to The BIG CRIT, which will take place the following day and will involve students from Scott Sutherland presenting their projects to the industry experts for discussion.
