Leading Scottish sporting facility makes key industry appointment

A leading Scottish sports facility has strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of a chief executive (CE) to drive the continued growth of the company.

Aberdeen Sports Village, which boasts more than 10,000 members, has appointed Duncan Sinclair as CE, to further modernise business strategy and achieve key objectives at the facility, benefiting the city and the North-east in a number of ways.

Mr Sinclair, who has over 30 years experience in the sport, health and fitness sector, has held a number of key senior management roles in his career bringing experience of working in high profile positions across Scotland. He will utilise his considerable experience to ensure the premier sport and exercise facility continues to provide world class sporting opportunities to all of its customers.

Since its establishment in 2009, Aberdeen Sports Village has offered those of all abilities, including elite athletes, an international class location in which to train and compete, winning a number of national industry and business accolades due to its quality and commitment to the sector.

The business, which includes an Olympic class aquatics facility as well as state-of-the-art athletics facilities, sports hall, fitness suite, indoor pitch, squash courts and studio, has ambitions to deliver “phase three” of its development plan, including two synthetic grass pitches (3G), with changing accommodation and a gold standard strength and conditioning suite. Mr Sinclair will play an instrumental role in the expansion plans and hopes to have this development delivered and available to customers in 2017

Professor Michael Greaves, interim chairman for Aberdeen Sports Village, said: “Duncan is a welcome addition to ASV and we are excited to have someone leading our company with his background and knowledge of managing and developing sports and leisure facilities.

“With his extensive experience, and excellent communication and people skills, we believe Duncan will have a major impact, in further enhancing the very positive trajectory of ASV and providing new opportunities for our world class facility.

“On behalf of our partners, board and staff, I warmly welcome Duncan to ASV and look forward to his innovative, forward thinking attitude, leading ASV to continued future success.”

Mr Sinclair said: “I am thrilled to be here and I’m already enjoying working with such talented staff and passionate customers. Aberdeen Sports Village has a fantastic reputation and is home to some elite athletes, but we are a broad church here and have a true representation of customers of all ages and abilities.

It is a truly inspiring venue, I would encourage anyone who has not yet paid us a visit to come along and have a look, it has the guaranteed wow factor. The whole of the north east expects big things from ASV and I can’t wait to meet that challenge.

Aberdeen Sports Village, home to the city’s leading aquatics centre, hosts over 90 different exercise classes and employs over 250 members of staff.
