One of the energy sector’s top lawyers has joined the executive team and board of D2Zero as it seeks to accelerate the energy transition.
Nicola Macleod has been named Group General Counsel and Director of Corporate Affairs at the Aberdeen-headquartered clean energy solutions group, which is among Scotland’s fastest growing companies with over 4,000 staff.
Nicola joins the group from operator Spirit Energy, where she has been Executive Vice President and General Counsel since 2018.
At Spirit Energy, Nicola held responsibility for legal and commercial activities, including board governance, regulatory affairs, compliance, acquisitions and divestments, and joint venture management.
D2Zero - which has the financial backing of SCF Partners - is a business grounded in the realities of the transition, with dual focus on servicing and decarbonising the vitally important oil and gas sector, whilst accelerating the transition to renewable energy.
The group includes Score and Hydrasun – two long-established and highly-respected service businesses – and has revenues of over £500million.
Its companies are collaborating with each other - and with industry - across four key areas of the energy transition: emissions reduction; clean hydrogen; power efficiency and resilience management; and carbon capture and storage.
Nicola will support D2Zero with acquisitions, which are core to its strategy, and the firm is identifying high-quality companies that can expand its expertise and accelerate its growth.
Bob Drummond, Chief Executive Officer at D2Zero, said: “We are delighted to welcome Nicola as our new General Counsel and Director of Corporate Affairs.
“With a wealth of experience in the energy sector, Nicola is a great addition to our executive team and board, and will play a key role in supporting D2Zero’s growth plans.”
Nicola – who is also a former director at Maersk Oil – is a fellow of the Institute of Directors and member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators.
She has an MA in Politics, MSc, a Law degree and Master of Commercial Laws, and is recognised in the Energy Council’s Top Female Leaders.
Commenting on her new role at D2Zero, Nicola said: “I am delighted to be joining such an ambitious company focused on solving the technical challenges of delivering the energy transition.
“This is an exciting time to come on board and I look forward to working with the leadership team and contributing to D2Zero’s growth.”
D2Zero confirmed last month that it will deliver its mission to decarbonise critical industries from a new base in Aberdeen’s Energy Transition Zone, the largest dedicated energy transition complex in Europe.
Mr Drummond says the company has a “strong and active pipeline” of opportunities and, supported by SCF Partners, is looking to complete further acquisitions in the coming months.
