Scotland's most prestigious legal body has accused a Green MSP of launching a "reprehensible" attack for suggesting that Supreme Court justices were bigots.
Maggie Chapman, who is deputy convener of Holyrood’s equalities committee, was filmed criticising the Supreme Court at a gathering of trans activists in Aberdeen at the weekend.
The North-east Scotland MSP accused the court of spreading “bigotry, prejudice and hatred” by ruling that a trans woman is not a woman.
The Faculty of Advocates called for her to be removed from Holyrood’s equalities committee, saying her stoking of the “toxic” gender debate risked putting judges on the UK’s highest court in physical danger.
Roddy Dunlop KC, dean of the Faculty of Advocates, denounced her comments as “reprehensible”, “outrageous” and “utterly beyond the pale."
Ms Chapman said she stands by her comments, and that it was her role to "stand up and represent trans people."
