Last call for entries to annual schools competition

Schools from across the North-east have only weeks remaining to submit their entries to a popular annual awards competition.

The GREC Anne Frank Awards 2016 are open to all primary and secondary-aged pupils at schools across Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray.

With the Friday, May 13 deadline looming, the awards’ organisers, Grampian Regional Equality Council (GREC), has issued a final call for schools who wish to participate.

The awards, which promote diversity, equality and human rights throughout the north-east, are again being sponsored by Contract Solutions Grampian (CSG), a commercial and office cleaning business.

Adriana Sokolowska, Promoting Respect project worker at GREC, said: “We’ve already received a great deal of interest in this year’s Anne Frank Awards but it’s vital that pupils and teachers get their entries in before deadline.”

An awards ceremony will take place at Cineworld Union Square, on Friday, June 10 (2016) and is scheduled to begin at 10.30am. In addition, all participating pupils will receive a certificate for their efforts.

The GREC Anne Frank Awards are one of the few remaining initiatives allowing schools to salute the moral courage of the young Dutch girl and her Jewish family who suffered as a result of Nazi persecution during World War II.

There are many ways in which schools can take part. Pupils may be involved in the celebration of events and anniversaries or the production of artwork, poetry, drama, and short films. Previously project work; PowerPoint, comic strips and songs have all been presented.
