P6 and 7 pupils at Kittybrewster School have launched their new film depicting the history of Aberdeen’s iconic St Machar’s Cathedral and their training experience as period-costume tour guides at the Old Aberdeen building.

The film shows the pupils - in medieval garb – who were involved in a junior tour guides project with St. Machar’s Cathedral and arts and heritage education organisation Illuminate UK.

Each class spent at a week at the Cathedral being trained as junior tour guides by Katherine Williams, education officer at the cathedral, and Callan MacCormick who is an actor, drama workshop leader and script writer.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the P7s are yet to put their new tour guide skills into practice - but the film shows the P6 and P7 pupils explaining the history, and telling the stories, of St. Machar’s Cathedral.

Aberdeen City Council’s education operational delivery convener, Councillor Tauqeer Malik was at the launch of the film which can be viewed at: https://youtu.be/rk3M_R16kVY

Councillor Malik said: “Everyone involved can be rightly proud of the film which showcases the talents of the pupils and gives a real flavour of this unique learning experience.

“The pupils really looked the part in their costumes and I’m sure visitors to St Machar’s Cathedral will enjoy the history and tales their youthful guides have to tell.”
